JEROMESVILLE — Hillsdale students Riley DeWitt and Noah Davis have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, earning national recognition for their academic achievement and potential.

The Hillsdale Board of Education recognized both students at its October meeting, presenting each with a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program.

DeWitt graduated from Hillsdale a year early in 2026, earned an Honors Diploma, and received Hillsdale’s Academic Award each year.

She was a member of the National Honor Society, earned honor roll recognition and was named Student of the Month. She also participated in choir, Spanish Club and History Club.

Davis, a Hillsdale senior, is senior class president and a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. He has earned honor roll recognition, Hillsdale’s Academic Award for three years, and Scholar-Athlete honors. He has also been named Student of the Month.

He performs in Marching Band, where he serves as a student conductor, and Jazz Band, and has earned top awards for his saxophone performances at Falcon Factor, Hillsdale’s talent show.

He is also involved in History Club and Spanish Club, previously competed on the golf team, and was crowned Hillsdale’s 2026 homecoming king.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students nationwide are recognized each year for their exceptional academic promise.

These students rank among the top 50,000 entrants in the 2027 competition based on their performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Although Commended Students do not advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, the recognition acknowledges their strong academic potential.
