ASHLAND — Ashland Source’s Emma Davis joined WRDL The Early Bird’s Word hosts Nicholas Stupka and Brandon Gunder on Thursday to talk about the latest local news.

During this week’s show, Davis explained the current state of mortuary storage capacity in the county. Storage needs have exceeded storage capabilities this winter, and a lack of clear contingency plans have left bodies in limbo. Other factors contributing to the problem include delays with doctors signing death certificates, inadequate weather conditions for burials as well as unexpected COVID-19-related deaths and associated costs.

More reporting on the matter is forthcoming.

Davis also spoke about February’s “Neighbor Spotlight,” Ashland Source’s monthly series featuring a person in the county. This month, Davis profiled Deborah Poffenbaugh, who went back to school at 57 years old to become a licensed practical nurse.

Anyone can submit candidates to be featured through Open Source.
