Ruth Alice Armstrong, 102 of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Ashland passed from this life on Saturday afternoon February 21, 2026 in Advent Heath in Tampa, Florida surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 2, 1923, in Ashland, the daughter of the late George Jay and Esta (nee Drown) Roberts. Ruth along with her family were lifelong residents of the Ashland Community.
She graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1941. Ruth married the love of her life, Carl H. Armstong, on December 7, 1941.
Ruth retired after more than 10 years of service in 1982 from Faultless Credit Union where she worked as an administrative secretary. She was previously employed as a secretary at the former Faultless Rubber Company later becoming Abbott Laboratories from 1941 to 1949.
Following Ruth and Carl’s retirement, for 20 years, they enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Jensen Beach, Florida. While there, Ruth’s main hobby was spending time with and seeing her 3 granddaughters grow up. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing euchre, bingo, and other games and spending time corresponding with friends and family on her computer.
Ruth was a devoted life-time member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving alongside Carl, on the Board of Deaconesses, in various church circles. She also proudly served as a dedicated volunteer for dinners and fundraisers over the years.
Ruth leaves behind her son, Dennis Armstrong (Sandra) of Wesley Chapel, Florida; daughter Cynthia Armstrong Runkel (Stephen) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; granddaughters Leslie (Armstrong) Candes (Michael) of Longmont, Colorado, Jennifer Armstrong of Tampa, Florida, and Shelly (Armstrong) Potsko (Adam) of Thornton, Colorado; and great-grandchildren Lena Catherine Candes, Evan Hugh Candes, and Morgan Ruth Potsko; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly and will miss her greatly.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Carl Armstrong who passed away on July 3, 2017; and one brother, Harold (Miriam) Roberts.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Church Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Justin Hylden and Reverend Dr. JoAnn Ford Watson presiding. A reception will follow the ceremony in the lounge at the church.
