Margaret Maybelle Eberts, 94, passed away on April 2, 2026, at Brethren Care Village, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 20, 1931, in Bellville to Harry Paul and Madeline (nee Cochran) Walters. Following her graduation from Mansfield Senior High School in 1949, Margaret began working at Lumbermen’s Insurance Company.
On November 4, 1950, she married Dale Eberts, and together they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. In 1965 Margaret and Dale founded their successful family business, Eberts Heating and Cooling. They retired in 2000 and moved to McCormick, South Carolina.
Margaret cherished spending time with family and friends and creating lasting memories. She also had a lifelong love of sports and competition. She often shared stories of her childhood, recalling how she loved playing sports with the boys at a time when girls were not allowed. Determined and spirited she would sneak off to join them even if it meant being caught and punished by standing in a corner. She enjoyed softball, basketball, tennis, and became an avid golfer, achieving many team victories and personal championships.
In retirement, she continued to enjoy golf, playing cards, and had an active social life. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, fun, and playful “smack talk.” Her competitive spirit never faded and was passed down through generations.
Margaret’s family was truly blessed to share life with their beautiful, fun-loving mom, “Gigi,” and “Margie.” She often said she had lived a great life and encouraged everyone to “keep moving.”
She is survived by her three children: Vicki (Steve) Long of Ashland; Brad (Jamie) Eberts of Eustis, Florida; and Gary (Brenda) Eberts of Bellville.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Tiffany (Scott) Sauder; Stefanie (Jason) Vasselle; Jessica (Paul) Rasoletti; Natalie (Jeremy) Jacobs; Brad (Kari) Eberts; Leslie Eberts; Alicia Eberts; Belinda (Kyle) Hildebrandt; Shane (Jen) Gess; along with 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Gladys (Eberts) Kissel.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale; her parents; her brothers Robert, John, and Joe Walters; her sister, Pauline Ruggles; her in-laws, Dale and Ruby Eberts; and her brother-in-law, Jack Eberts.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Brethren Care Village, Bradford House II, for their kindness and loving care they provided over the past two years. A special thank you is also given to Gentiva Hospice for their compassion and support during Margaret’s final months.
