ASHLAND — Families made waves and memories Friday at “The Big Splash” summer pool party.
The annual celebration brought families together for a full day of dancing, swimming and beating the heat.
The event, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Brookside Pool, 209 Parkside Drive, featured a DJ, pizza and Kona Ice. Kids also had the chance to climb inside giant inflatable hamster balls that floated across the pool during adult swim.
Thousands of rubber ducks and colorful beach balls filled the water while families enjoyed games and music throughout the day.
“The Big Splash” began in 2019 and has since become a summer tradition for the community.
Pool Manager Missy Dropsey said putting on the annual event takes everyone working together.
Lifeguards had all hands on deck, helping at the front desk, scanning the pool and entertaining guests between activities.
At the start of every hour, Mayor Matt Miller counted down as swimmers leaped into the water together for the event’s signature “big splash,” sending waves across the pool.
Guests and lifeguards embraced the party’s tropical theme by dressing in Hawaiian shirts and leis. Some of the pool staff went all out with a Disney theme, dressing as characters including Woody from “Toy Story” and Genie from “Aladdin.”
Admission was free for children ages 15 and younger. Guests 16 and older paid $2 to attend.
