ASHLAND — A 34-year-old Columbus man is facing one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, following an Oct. 1 road rage incident in Ashland County.

According to Ashland County Common Pleas Court records, Frank A. King II appeared in court via Zoom on Monday morning at 11 a.m. for a bond setting.

The complaint, filed by Richard Kluever Jr. of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, alleges King II did “knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm” to John S. Nervo Jr., 53, of Canton, “by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance.”

According to OSHP, the incident occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. Oct. 1 when the operators of two vehicles — driven by King II and Nervo Jr. — got into an altercation while traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 near State Route 60.

“A 1992 Peterbilt Semi-Truck operated by (Nervo Jr.) (left lane) and a 2018 Nissan Altima operated by (King II) (right lane) got into an altercation involving hand gestures toward one another by both drivers,” the release said. “Shortly after that, (King II) brandished a 9mm firearm and fired one round at the Peterbilt semi-truck striking it on the right-side passenger door.

“After the shot was fired both vehicles separated from each other without further contact.”

Troopers from the Ashland and Wooster OSHP Posts responded to the area and located King II’s Nissan Altima still traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 in Wooster.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop and apprehended the 34-year-old without incident, the release said. No injuries to the two drivers or officers were reported.

King II was incarcerated in the Ashland County Jail. As of Monday morning, he remains in custody at the jail, according to ACSO’s active inmates list.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
