MIFFLIN – The Lakeville teen who was sucked through Charles Mill Dam early Thursday has died, according to Ashland County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Carl Richert.

Regina Miller died at OhiohHealth Mansfield hospital late Thursday night, Richert said. She was 18.

Miller had been in critical condition at the hospital since early Thursday morning, when she was sucked through the dam while swimming in a restricted area with her sister around 2:15 a.m.

A man fishing near the spillway, Jared Tims of Fredricktown, spotted Miller, pulled her from the water and administered CPR with help from one of Miller’s friends.

Miller and her sister were with friends who were fishing when they decided to go swimming, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. The area is a popular fishing spot, but swimming in the area is prohibited because of a strong undertow, which caused Miller to be carried toward, and ultimately through, the dam.
