ASHLAND – Although there are many races on the ballot in Ashland County for November’s General Election, many of them are uncontested and several have no candidates at all.
The deadline for candidates to file petitions for the Nov. 7 election was 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Ashland County Board of Elections has provided a preliminary list of those who filed for the election.
This is not an official list until the board meets and certifies them and all petitions are checked to make sure they have the proper number of signatures and are filled out properly. The board will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17.
Ashland City races
There are two candidates for Ashland mayor and two candidates each for the 2nd Ward, 3rd Ward and 4th Ward council seats. City council members Matt Miller and Sandra Tunnell are running for mayor. In the 2nd Ward, incumbent Robert Valentine will face Paul Stevenson, 3rd Ward incumbent Ruth Detrow will face Dennis Miller and in the 4th Ward Sandra Bally and Allen Farnam will face off. Tunnell currently is the 4th Ward council member but is not running so she can run for mayor.
Countywide Races
In the only county office race, incumbent John Good is the only candidate to file for Ashland County Municipal Court Judge.
School Board Races
Three candidates filed for three open seats on the Ashland City School board, including incumbents James Wolfe and William Gravitt III, and newcomer Mike Heimann.
Hillsdale also had three candidates file to run for three seats, including incumbents Jason Chio and Vella King and challenger W. Eugene Anderson.
In Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village School District, only two candidates filed for three seats, incumbents David Hunter and Roy Templeman.
For Crestview Local Schools, incumbents Lisa Music and David Kissell are running unopposed.
At Mapleton Local Schools, newcomers ShaNa Benner and Mindy Scurlock are running unopposed.
Village Council Races
Four candidates filed for four open seats in Bailey Lakes: Marry Webb Dilgard, Tom Metzger, Anne Ramsthaler and Dorothy Scott.
No candidates filed for four open council seats in Hayesville.
Four candidates are running for four council positions in Jeromesville. The candidates are Reganne Heffelfinger, Chad Hickey, Emily Soles and Rodney Summers.
In Loudonville, seven candidates will face off for 4 positions. Filed to run are Jeff Campbell, Traci Cooper, Ted Fraser, Thomas Gallagher, Jason Van Sickle, Thomas Young and Dakota Zickefoose.
No candidates filed to run for four seats in Mifflin.
Five candidates will battle for four positions in Perrysville. Candidates are David Artrip Jr., Cheryl Eggerton-Bowen, Duane Holland, Heather Mullinnex and Kerry Rich.
In Polk, only one candidate – Judy Karoglan – filed to run for four open seats.
In Savannah, five candidates filed for four open seats. Candidates are Stephen Brown, Ben Kunkel, Kris Hickey, Bruce Richards and Doug Yoho.
Village Mayor Races
In Hayesville, only Robert Vinsack filed to run.
Incumbent Donald Foster is the only candidate who filed to run in Polk.
Township Trustee Races
Two candidates filed for two open Clear Creek Township seats – Tim Calame and Standley Crist.
Marianne Cowell and Dwain Sitzlein filed for the two open Green Township positions.
Three filed for the two open seats in Hanover Township. Candidates are John Burkhart, Jack Campbell and Ronald Endslow.
Jim Power and Kay Wright filed for the two open seats in Jackson Township.
Mike Bender and Tim Nickles filed for two open seats in Lake Township.
In Mifflin Township, four candidates filed for two open seats. Candidates are Jeff Jacobs, Richard Mumaw, Eric Oswalt and Brad Schlechty.
Milton Township has two open seats and Rick Emmons and Eric Fulk filed to run.
Keith Raudebaugh and Michael Weber filed for the two open seats in Mohican Township.
Joshua Boley and Stephen Uhler filed for the two open seats in Montgomery Township.
In Orange Township, James Elson and George Parks filed for two open seats.
Three candidates filed for two open seats in Perry Township: Brian Funk, DeForset Kelley and Burton Williams.
Ruggles Township has two open seats and three candidates: James Griffin, Scott Stolcals and Jerad White.
Five candidates filed to run for two open seats in Sullivan Township. Candidates are Suzanne Fayak, Glen Goff Sr., Duane Jenkins, Suzanne Runals and Janice Steele.
Two candidates filed for two seats in Troy Township. Tim Roth and Leslie Dean White are the candidates.
Doug Kamenik, James Lessig and Ralph Owens filed for two open seats in Vermillion Township.
