ASHLAND — Three Ashland girls helped comprise the All-Richland Source girls golf team this fall.
Klaira Paramore, Kira Moore and Anna Watson were part of the five-member squad.
Meamwhile, Mandy Ruminski’s golf game is improving with age.
A junior and the two-time reigning The 2019 Richland Source Girls Golfer of the Year, Ruminski has qualified for the state tournament each of her first three years of high school — twice at Shelby and this year at Lexington. She has improved on her score at state each year.
As a freshman in 2017 she carded a two-day total of 153 at Ohio State’s Gray Course. The following year she shot a two-day 148 as the Whippets finished second in the Division II team standings for a second straight year.
Ruminski qualified for the Division I state meet after moving to Lexington for her junior season and the jump in competition brought out the best in her. She carded a 144 this year, good for a sixth-place finish.
“It’s just a lot more stressful, the thought of being at D1 versus D2,” Ruminski said at the time. “Playing with … higher-level girls made it a little more stressful.”
It didn’t seem to bother Ruminski. She shot an opening-round 70 before closing with a 74.
Ruminski tied for second at the Sycamore Springs section with a 74. She was second at the Stone Ridge district, carding a 76.
Lexington will return all five of its top players from this year’s district-qualifying team.
“We’ll have a lot more experienced players (next year). A lot of people this year, it was their first time playing,” Ruminski said. “I think next year we can expect a lot more than this year.”
Nicole Jones, Shelby: Just a sophomore, Jones finished seventh at the Division II state tournament with a two-day total of 146. The younger sister of former Shelby state champ Alexis Jones, she fired a 65 to win the Valley View sectional tournament by a whopping 14 strokes. She followed that with a 77 at the Sycamore Springs district, good for sixth place. She led Shelby to its third straight state tournament appearance.
Anna Watson, Ashland: A senior headed to Eastern Michigan, Watson earned All-Ohio honors with a two-day 146 and a ninth-place finish at the Division I state tournament. Watson was second at the Sycamore Springs sectional and third at the Stone Ridge district. The Arrows won sectional and district team titles and finished sixth at state with a two-day 644.
Kira Moore, Ashland: A junior, Moore was sectional medalist after shooting a 72 at Sycamore Springs. She followed that with a 78 at the Stone Ridge district, good for fourth. Moore shot a two-day 152 at the state tournament, good for 19th place.
Klaira Paramore, Ashland: A sophomore, Paramore was fifth at the Sycamore Springs sectional (85) and the Stone Ridge district (80). She tied for 43rd at the Division I state meet, shooting a two-day total of 165.
