ASHLAND — The second and final meeting in the fact finding process of negotiations between the Ashland City School District’s Board of Education and the Ashland City Teachers Association (ACTA) was held last week, according to ACTA president Melissa Baker.
She anticipated the results will be available in four to five weeks when speaking with the media following the Monday, Feb. 3 Ashland City School District’s board of education meeting.
Both the ACTA and the Ashland City BOE’s negotiating teams were involved in the meetings, Baker said.
At this point, it appears negotiations will remain on hold until the outside party returns the results of fact finding.
“We’re just asking for what’s fair,” Baker said, recognizing that both sides, of course, have their own definition of what is fair.
In December, the BOE issued a notice saying it’d wait until the results of fact finding were determined before furthering negotiations with the ACTA. The notice was issued directly after the ACTA membership rejected the BOE’s last best offer due to unresolved concerns.
At that time, members had expressed concern about the “board’s threat to take away expected compensation and desire to reduce job security for new hires.”
At Monday evening’s meeting, the BOE approved a continuing contract for the Ashland City Teacher Association (ACTA) president Melissa Baker, following the resulting recommendation of a lengthy arbitration process.
