ASHLAND — In an effort to spread cheer to its caregivers, the University Hospital Samaritan’s Human Resources Department has issued a call for the Ashland community to “Chalk the Walk.”

Beginning April 1 no earlier than 10 a.m., community members are encouraged to decorate the sidewalks outside of any UH Samaritan location as a way to support its caregivers as they risk their own wellbeing to care for those with COVID-19 or other ailments.

“This event shows the support and love for the UH Samaritan family from the community. The sidewalks with images and words of inspiration, hope, cheer and appreciation help to encourage and support UH Caregivers in these stressful and challenging times,” said Manager of Communications & Development Kathy Witmer.

People are asked to bring their own chalk and to intentionally position themselves where they remain socially distant from other artists.

There is no official gathering of people. Rather this initiative kicks off Wednesday and is intended to continue indefinitely.

The notion is to see how long this we can keep this going, Witmer said.
