U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) meets with Supreme Court Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) met with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett on Oct. 21 and praised her impressive background and exceptional qualifications.

Portman released the following statement:

“I enjoyed meeting with Judge Barrett (Wednesday) to discuss her nomination to serve as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. It’s clear that she is exceptionally qualified for the job and I look forward to supporting her confirmation.

“Currently serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, one level below the Supreme Court, Judge Barrett has been highly regarded for her work in the legal world by people across a wide variety of political and legal philosophies. The American Bar Association has deemed her to be well-qualified, which is the highest rating that the American Bar Association can give a judicial nominee.

“Her personal story is even more impressive. Judge Barrett earned a full scholarship to Notre Dame Law School, graduating top of her class. She clerked for the Supreme Court. She built an extraordinary career in the private sector and law, and she also has raised seven children, two adopted from Haiti. She’s a great role model for working parents everywhere. I believe Judge Barrett is an excellent pick for this important role and I commend the president on nominating her. I strongly support Judge Barrett’s confirmation to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.”
