ASHLAND –Mark Gorsuch values faith, equity and prayer.

He is black, gay and unafraid to be himself in his uniquely religious community.

A devout Roman Catholic, he firmly believes his religion advises him to fight for the marginalized and oppressed. He attends Mass regularly and intentionally visits churches when he travels.

In his picture for Ohio Values, he is praying at St. Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal, Canada’s largest church, in Montreal.

This audio story is part of “Ohio Values,” a collaborative project between Source Media Properties and three other news outlets across the state.

This series is intentionally not political, although you will hear some stories that involve political topics and issues. Instead, we made an intentional choice to focus on our people, sharing photographs and stories about what they value the most, whether they’re heading into a voting booth or weathering a pandemic.
