MANSFIELD – A Defiance man was killed Monday after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 near Koogle Road in Mifflin Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Jeffrey L. Davis, 52, of Defiance, was prounounced dead at the scene, the Patrol reported.
Authorities say the incident took place at approximately 12:54 p.m.
According to the Patrol, a 2009 International LF627 tractor trailer, driven by Michael D Walker, 57, of Cleveland, Ohio was eastbound on U.S. 30 stopped in traffic. A 2015 Volvo Conventional tractor trailer driven by Davis was eastbound on U.S. 30 approaching the stopped traffic. Davis’ vehicle struck Walker’s vehicle from behind and forced Walker’s vehicle into the median.
The crash backed up traffic for a couple of hours as U.S. 30 was temporarily closed until the road could be cleared.
Mifflin Township Fire and EMS, Madison Township Fire and EMS, Richland County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Shelly Smith Towing, and Aber’s Towing responded to the scene and assisted.
The crash remains under investigation.
