Severe weather 061721

It may be fixing to come up a cloud on Friday, if the National Weather Service folks in Cleveland have it right.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for most of Ohio, including north central Ohio, in advance of strong storms that may rake the area on Friday afternoon and into the evening.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are possible, beginning Friday morning and even continuing into Saturday, perhaps producing some real toad-choker rains.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be most likely late Friday afternoon into Friday evening, mainly between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. The initial round of showers and thunderstorms on Friday morning may have an impact on the timing and placement of stronger storms later Friday.

The good news for our area, including those for who drive under the oft-flooded “Subway” on Park Avenue East in Mansfield, is that southern Ohio is more likely to get hammered than we are in the north.

The main threats will be hail and strong thunderstorm wind gusts along with the potential for locally heavy rain that can result in flash flooding and cause streams and creeks to go out of their banks. An isolated tornado is also possible.

Damaging wind gusts to 70 mph and hail to 1.5″ inches will also be concerns.

Looking ahead to the weekend, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy with a high of 85. There is a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday night with a continued chance for thunderstorms.

On Sunday, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 87. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent. On Sunday night, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. and then a chance of showers after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
