PAINT TOWNSHIP — A Wooster man was killed and his motorcycle passenger seriously injured Friday after a two-vehicle crash in Wayne County, the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
James Meadows, 70, of Wooster, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 70-year-old female who was riding with him sustained serious injuries and was transported via life flight to Akron City Hospital. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Harrison Road and South Kansas Road within Paint Township.
According to the Patrol, William Jordan, 78, of Orrville, was traveling north on South Kansas Road in a 2019 Ram 1500. Meadows was traveling east on Harrison Road on a 2003 Harley Davidson Road King. Jordan failed to yield from a stop sign at the intersection of South Kansas Road and Harrison Road and pulled into the path of Meadows.
The Patrol stated that Meadows struck Jordan’s truck on the driver’s side and both vehicles came to rest in the intersection. Jordan was not injured.
Assisting at the scene were the South Central Fire Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time the crash remains under investigation, however drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
This is the 11th fatal crash in Wayne County in 2021.
