Storms are rolling in from the east, and a severe thunderstorm watch covers Ashland County until 6 p.m.

ASHLAND — A busy weather week has extended into the weekend in Ashland County.

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland has issued a severe thunderstorm watch Saturday until 6 p.m. for a large chunk of northern Ohio, including Ashland County.

The storm is rolling in just a few days after powerful storms produced multiple tornado warnings across north central Ohio and a wide-spread variety of odd-looking mammatus clouds.

The NWS is calling for showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m. The weather experts said some of the storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds.

The high today will be near 83 and the chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are expected, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The rumbling is expected to continue tonight. There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 a.m. on Sunday,

There is also a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday, mainly after 2 p.m.  It’s expected to be partly sunny Sunday with a high near 90.

There is an 80 percent chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm on Sunday night.
