RITTMAN — Hillsdale will not only be doing a postseason dance, the Falcons will be doing it at home.
Coach Trevor Cline’s club pounded Rittman 42-7 on Friday night to lock up a top-8 spot in Division VII, Region 25. That means a home playoff game in Jeromesville next week for the Falcons (6-4 overall, 5-2 in the Wayne County Athletic League).
Hillsdale took control of this contest from the very beginning and never let go.
Quarterback Jake Hoverstock fired a 32-yard TD pass to Jack Fickes for a 7-0 lead with 7:34 remaining in the first period. Hoverstock followed up with a 4-yard scoring run just four minutes later to make it 14-0.
In the second period, Braylen Jarvis capped a drive with a 1-yard plunge for a 21-0 advantage. Max Vesper finished another march with a 4-yard TD blast for a 28-0 halftime lead.
The Falcons triggered a running clock early in the third quarter on Troy Bennett’s 13-yard touchdown dash. for a 35-0 bulge. Jake Haven’s 29-yard scoring sprint pushed the gap to 42-0.
The Indians averted the shutout with Artie Sonego’s 93-yard TD run.
Rittman finished the season 2-8, 0-7.
