ASHLAND — A winter weather advisory has been issued Sunday until 10 p.m. for an area that includes Richland, Ashland and Knox counties.
Richland and Knox counties were placed under Level 1 snow emergencies on Sunday morning, declared by sheriff’s offices in each county.
Roads around the are are snow-covered and slippery as snow continues to fall.
According to the National Weather Service office in Cleveland, up to three inches of snow are expected today in north central Ohio.
Meteorologists forecast that periods of heavy snowfall will move across the area this afternoon into the evening.
One inch per hour snowfall rates will accompany the heaviest bands, resulting in quick accumulations and poor visibilities.
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation at 10:43 a.m., the right two lanes of I-71 southbound are closed due to an accident at U.S. 250.
Officials urge motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling.
