ASHLAND — Two people were arrested and a gun and drugs were seized in a Sunday traffic stop, according to an Ashland Police press release issued on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ashland Division of Police reported recovering containers of suspected gunpowder, cannon fuse and hand-crafted fireworks in the stop.
The release stated that a firearm and suspected methamphetamine were also recovered during the incident.
The car was stopped in the area of Cottage Street and Vine Street for failure to use a turn signal. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded as well, ensuring the items recovered in the traffic stop were safe.
Police Capt. Craig Kiley said it’s standard protocol to call in the bomb squad when police find any substances they are uncertain of in a traffic stop.
Police charged two people in connection with the incident.
Kaden M. Arangelovich, 20, of Ashland, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, tampering with evidence and probation violation.
Jamey J. Conner, 43, of Ashland, was charged with unlicensed fireworks manufacturing and possession of criminal tools.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Kiley said he’s uncertain of how long that investigation might take.
He encouraged people to call the proper authorities if they see any action they’re uncertain about.
“If you see something, say something,” Kiley said.
