Ashland City Schools Distinguished Alumni series
The Ashland City Schools Foundation will be hosting its 12th biennial Distinguished Alumni banquet Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Ashland University Convocation Center.
Five new inductees have been selected and will be honored, bringing the total inducted since the first event in 2003 to 65.
This week, Ashland Source is featuring information on one inductee per day today through Friday.
ASHLAND — Connie J. Marble is retired after 47 years of teaching English and Composition. After teaching six years at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, she returned to Ashland, where she taught at Ashland High School for 25 years.
She wrote, organized and taught the first AHS Advanced Placement English 12 course in 1980, and attended yearly AP English seminars and National English Teachers Conferences.
Connie also served as Ashland City Teachers Association Treasurer.
During her tenure at Ashland High School, Connie trained as a mentor teacher and mentored eight teachers. She also served many years as Student Council Advisor and Senior Class Advisor.
After her retirement from Ashland High School in 2002, Connie continued her career in education at Ashland University for 17 years as Adjunct Professor of English and Composition courses and Supervisor of student teachers.
She continues her dedication to education through the Ashland City Schools Foundation, where she serves as Vice President and Teacher Mini Grants Committee Chair.
Connie has made valuable contributions to the Ashland community. She has served on the Ashland County Community Foundation Board of Trustees since 2017, where she chaired the Community Grants Committee and served on the Scholarship Committee and the Educational Programs Committee.
She also served on the ACCF Women’s Fund Steering Committee for 13 years and is active on the Ashland Symphony Board of Directors while also serving as ASO Education Committee Chair.
Connie is Vice President of the Ashland Garden Study Club, Treasurer of Amicae per Annos Sorority and is a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She served for many years on the staff of Wappner Funeral Directors, where she assisted her husband serving Ashland families.
Connie was recognized in 2018 as an Ashland County Woman of Achievement.
A native of Spencer, Ohio, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in English and Speech and a Master of Education in Curriculum/Instruction and Supervision from Ashland University, where she met her husband, Dann Marble – an Ashland High School alumnus.
Connie and Dann have two daughters, Michelle and Mindy, and two grandchildren, Tess and Myles – all graduates of Ashland High School.
Connie is an avid reader and enjoys traveling. She says her greatest professional achievement is seeing so many of her former students become amazing leaders in the Ashland community.
