ASHLAND — A new Wound Care Center is now open at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center. The center is the first in Ashland County.
Located on the fourth floor of the hospital campus, the center offers comprehensive care for people with wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory issues, and other serious medical conditions.
“This center fills a real need in our community,” said Mary MacDonald, MD, a provider at the UH Samaritan Wound Care Center. “Patients who once had to travel more than 20 miles for wound care can now access the same expert treatment close to home. That accessibility makes an enormous difference, not just in convenience, but in helping patients heal more effectively.”
Ashland resident Heath Garrison says the opening could not come soon enough.
“After my abdominal procedure, my recovery wasn’t going as planned,” said Garrison. “I’m grateful the new Wound Care Center at UH Samaritan opened when it did, my treatment could take a few weeks, and now I can get the care I need without driving too far away.”
Specialists at UH Wound Care Centers collaborate to coordinate care for patients across the UH system including limb salvage patients at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute who often experience persistent wounds.
The UH Samaritan Wound Care Center is focused on patient access and increased healing outcomes. This center operated by Healogics® is the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The advanced modalities onsite are equipped to treat a variety of wounds from minor skin tears to diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and everything in between.

The UH Samaritan Wound Care Center multidisciplinary team of professionals includes podiatrists, plastic surgeons, internal medicine, and wound care and ostomy certified nurses. Primary care physicians remain an integral member of the care team and will receive updates about patient progress. Patients receive individualized state of the art treatment to heal wounds, reduce amputations, and enhance quality of life.
Over the last several years, University Hospitals Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Centers have earned the prominent Healogics® President’s Circle Award, ranking among the best performing centers in Ohio, and among the best in the nation.
Advanced wound care modalities provided by our wound care experts include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings, and growth factor therapies.
The center will also offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a state-of-the-art adjunct to the comprehensive wound care program. This treatment delivers high doses of oxygen to wounds and fills the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues, leading to faster healing times. UH Samaritan plans to open hyperbaric chambers to begin treating patients in mid-2026.
