ASHLAND — Routine is right around the corner.
As summer winds down and the sun begins to set earlier, it can only mean one thing — school is about to be in session.
But before the bell rings on the first day of class, school doors will be opened to students and families to get a glimpse at where they’ll spend a good portion of the day for the next nine months.
Ashland City Schools has planned a series of open houses for all grade levels Aug. 18 through 20. Below is the open house schedule:
- Aug. 18, 4:30 to 6 p.m. — Reagan Elementary School (pre-K through first grade).
- Aug. 18, 5 to 6:30 p.m. — Ashland Middle School (seventh and eighth grades).
- Aug. 19, 4:30 to 6 p.m. — Edison Elementary School (second and third grades).
- Aug. 19, 4:30 to 6 p.m. — Taft Intermediate School (fourth grade).
- Aug. 19, 5 to 6:30 p.m. — Ashland Middle School (sixth grade).
- Aug. 19, 5:30 to 7 p.m. — Ashland High School (all grades).
- Aug. 20, 4:30 to 6 p.m. — Taft Intermediate School (fifth grade).
District teachers will return to work for professional development days Aug. 18 to 20 and the districtwide convocation is set for Aug. 19 at 8 a.m. inside Archer Auditorium.
“That’s a busy three days between the 18th and the 20th,” Ashland Supt. Steve Paramore said Monday during a board of education work session. “Some of our fall sports will be in full swing as well.
“We appreciate our families’ flexibility and understanding that you may have (students) in multiple buildings.”
Sixth and ninth grade students will be the first grades to begin school on Aug. 21, followed on Aug. 24 by students in grades one through 12. Kindergarteners and first grade students will have a staggered start Aug. 24 to 27.
Paramore shares district construction updates
Several construction projects have been completed or are nearing the finish line ahead of the upcoming school year.
Paramore said a new roof above the gymnasium at Taft Intermediate School has been installed and the playground blacktop was recently resurfaced. A basketball hoop is being moved on the playground and structures for new swings have also been added, he said.
New turf has also been installed at the high school softball field.
“It is down and it is unreal,” Paramore said. “It’s beautiful.
“They still have quite a bit left on that project but they should be getting most of their machinery out of there by the end of this week and then doing some stuff on the weekends knowing our staff comes back on the 18th.”
