Patricia Jean Gilmore, 85 of Ashland passed away on Friday morning, August 28, 2026, in her home while reciting her morning prayers and devotionals.

Jean was born on August 23, 1941, in Clarington, Ohio the daughter of the late Clyde and Ruth (nee Barker) Burterbaugh.

She graduated from Powhattan High School, Class of 1959. Jean married the love of her life, Walter E. Gilmore, on September 16, 1961.

Jean was employed as a secretary and administrator all her life; working for several companies including Starkey Glass, Archway, Hydromatic and Money Now.

She was a devoted member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where she proudly served as a deaconess, and numerous committees. Throughout her life, she was an avid baker, enjoyed swimming and crocheting with her friends at the Kroc Center, “Chicks with Sticks”. Many blessed days were spent with her family playing Yahtzee and Euchre with friends. When her grandchildren visited, they never left without a bag of cookies in hand and a smile on their face.

Jean is survived by her loving daughters, Jennifer (Randal) Recker of Mansfield and Deana Gilmore of Ashland; two grandchildren, Kathryn Recker of Cleveland and Matthew (McKenna) Recker of Morgantown, West Virginia; three siblings, Ruth Lynch of Marietta, Georgia, Tom (Connie) Buterbaugh of Malabar, Florida, and Brook Buterbaugh of Alice, Texas; Walts siblings, Ada McPeek of Sardis, Ohio, Debbie Artrip of Ashland, Velma Gilmore of Ashland, and Bob (Karla) Gilmore of Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years of marriage, Walter Gilmore who passed from this life on February 14, 2020; three siblings, Joseph (Marilyn) Buterbaugh, Malcolm (Mary Ann) Buterbaugh, and Charmaine (Don) Buterbaugh-Haywood, and three brothers-in-law, Scott McPeek, Larry Artrip, and Reverend Vernon Gilmore.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Steve Keib officiating. Friends and family may visit on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cleveland Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Road, Cleveland, OH 44106.
